The guidance presents practical measures to protect healthcare workers from occupational exposure to hazardous medicinal products during the whole life cycle of the products whenever they are handled. Central in the guidance is the hierarchy of controls that prioritises engineering measures such as closed handling over personal protective equipment alone. Development of the guidance was founded by Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, in collaboration with EU-OSHA, DG SANTE and DG GROW, and first published in English in 2023.
The translations enable healthcare workers and employers to read the guidance in their own language and support a more consistent implementation of protective measures under the Carcinogens, Mutagens and Reprotoxic Substances Directive (CMRD) in all EU member states.
